2021 Gladiator EcoDiesel Announced

2021 Gladiator EcoDiesel Announced

Brought to you by Grogan's Towne Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram

Fans of the Gladiator have been begging for it since the truck's debut and Jeep just delivered by announcing the new 2021 Jeep Gladiator EcoDiesel! We have to say we've been waiting for this announcement since Jeep rolled out the Wrangler EcoDiesel, and we're so excited the EcoDiesel engine has finally arrived in the Gladiator's powertrain lineup!

What can you tell me about the EcoDiesel engine?

The EcoDiesel engine delivers unmatched off-road capability with the help of the 442 lb-ft of torque that is pumping out of the engine. The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine can be paired with either the Gladiator Sport, Overland, or Rubicon so you don't have to choose between the engine you want and the model that checks off every box on your wants and needs list. The EcoDiesel engine uses dual overhead camshafts with four valves per cylinder and a 60-degree angle between the cylinder banks. Extra strength that excels at dampening vibrations is provided by compacted graphite iron that the block is cast from. A bedplate is also made out of compacted graphite iron, which adds even more rigidity to the block. Friction and noise, vibration, and harshness levels or NVH are reduced thanks to individual bearing caps being used on the heat-treated aluminum cylinder heads. NVH levels are also reduced by offsetting the piston pin by 0.3 millimeters from the centerline.

What else can you tell me about the Gladiator EcoDiesel?

Well, each Gladiator EcoDiesel model comes paired with a TorqueFlite 8HP75 eight-speed automatic transmission that has been specifically designed to handle the increased torque of the EcoDiesel engine. The new transmission has been calibrated for low RPM shifts along with the rigors that come with driving a Gladiator on and off the road. The new transmission even uses more than 40 individual shift maps to optimize shift points for fuel economy, performance, and 4x4 capability.

Just how capable is the Gladiator EcoDiesel?

The Gladiator EcoDiesel leaves all the competition behind in the dust thanks to the 442 lb-ft of torque and advanced four-wheel-drive system. All Gladiator EcoDiesel models have a 3.73 axle ratio and use third-generation Dana 44 front and rear heavy-duty axles. The Rock-Trac 4x4 system for the Gladiator Rubicon uses a two-speed transfer case with a 4.0:1 low-range gear ratio, while the Command-Trac 4x4 system for the Sport and Overland models use a part-time two-speed transfer case with a 2.72:1 low-range gear ratio.
