2022 Jeep Compass vs Chevy Trailblazer

If you're interested in getting behind the wheel of a sporty new crossover SUV, you're in luck! The automotive market is practically awash with crossover SUV options, which can have both pros and cons as a customer conducting your search. While it's great to have so many options to choose from, it can also make it a bit difficult to determine which crossover is right for you. Today, we'll be taking a closer look at two viable options within the crossover SUV segment to help you determine which one you'd rather drive home in. The first option is the 2022 Jeep Compass, which has been fully redesigned for this model year. The second option is the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer, which is a smaller variant of the Chevy Blazer SUV. Both of these vehicles have many various features to offer, but only one will come out on top. Keep reading down below to learn more!

2022 Jeep Compass Power & Handling

The 2022 Jeep Compass lineup is comprised of five different trim levels, each of which receives the same powertrain. This includes a Tigershark 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine rated at 177 horsepower and 172 lb-ft of torque, and either a 6-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, or a 9-speed automatic transmission and 4-wheel drive. Rear-wheel drive comes standard on the first two trims, but 4-wheel drive is available across the board. On the Latitude LUX and Limited trims, the 4X4 system is the Jeep Active Drive. On the Trailhawk, this system is swapped out for the more rugged Active Drive Low 4X4 system, which provides a 20:1 crawl ratio. The Trailhawk also includes off-road suspension, Selec-Terrain Traction Management, and hill-descent control, all of which help it achieve its exceptional off-road capability that earned this trim level its Jeep Trail Rated Badge. Plus, a properly-equipped 2022 Compass can tow up to 2,000 pounds.

2022 Chevy Trailblazer Power & Handling

The 2022 Chevy Trailblazer's trim level lineup has four different models, the LS, LT, ACTIV, and RS. Depending on the trim level you choose, there are two different engine options available. First up, there's a 1.2-liter turbocharged inline-3 rated at 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. With this engine, the Trailblazer will also come with front-wheel drive, and a continuously variable transmission (CVT) which constantly makes minute adjustments depending on the driving conditions. If you're looking for a slight boost in power, the second engine option is the 1.3-liter turbocharged inline-3 which bumps up the output to 155 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. It also offers either the same CVT, or a 9-speed automatic transmission, as well as available all-wheel drive. Sadly, 4-wheel drive is not an option for the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer, and its horsepower falls a bit short of the compass. This comes through in terms of its maximum towing capacity of 1,000 pounds, which is just half that of the Compass.

2022 Jeep Compass Features & Design

The design of the Jeep Compass is all-new for 2022, and these updates are evident right from the very first glance! The exterior feels modern and refined thanks to a refreshed front and rear fascia, with a sleeker take on the iconic seven-slot grille, framed by slim LED headlights. Plus, the Latitude LUX trim is joining the lineup for the first time this year, and includes features like heated side mirrors, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a remote start system. It also has elegant touches like a leather-wrapped shift knob, and ambient overhead lighting. If you want a bolder look, the Trailhawk delivers, with features like a black and red hood decal, all-season tires, and a 1-inch lift. The Limited rounds out the lineup with a new Slate Grey leather interior, Burnished Copper accent stitching, and a Gloss Black roof!

2022 Chevy Trailblazer Features & Design

As we mentioned above, the Trailblazer takes its design cues from its larger SUV cousin, the Chevy Blazer. Naturally, the two look very similar, though the Trailblazer has a more athletic appearance. The sportiest model in the lineup is the ACTIV, which includes some off-road-focused features and an overall more aggressive design. IF you opt for an upper trim level like the RS, you can find a greater number of standard features, like LED taillights, and heated seats for added comfort. Cloth interior comes standard on the base trim level, while upper trim levels have a faux-leather upholstery. Unlike the Compass, you won't find any true leather in the Trailblazer lineup. However, some of the features it does offer include electronic climate control, automatic high beams, and an infotainment display with a standard 7-inch touchscreen. The system comes equipped with Wi-Fi, as well as wireless smartphone integration.

While it's easy to get lost among all your choices while searching for a new crossover SUV, we can see how important it is to really dig into the details. Now, it's clear that the 2022 Jeep Compass is the stronger option when compared to the Chevrolet Trailblazer, thanks to its more powerful engine, better off-road capability, higher towing capacity, and more luxurious interior.
