Is the Future of Jeep Electric?
Learn More from Grogan's Towne CDJR!
In 2021, Jeep unveiled the brand's first-ever model to use electric power with the Wrangler 4xe. Mating a turbocharged gas-powered engine and a pair of electric motors powered by a rechargeable battery pack, the 4xe system classifies as a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). Looking forward, Jeep has big plans to become a leader in the electric SUV market. At Jeep 4xe Day, the brand revealed two all-electric models and a plan for an electrified future. Continue reading below to learn more about Jeep's current PHEV lineup and the brand's future plans!
Wagoneer S
The Wagoneer name was reintroduced in the 2022 model year as a luxury SUV extension of the Jeep brand. The Wagoneer S was revealed at Jeep 4xe Day to take the luxury brand to new heights. The Wagoneer S runs solely on electric power, making it a battery-electric vehicle (BEV). Engineers of the Wagoneer S have targeted up to 600 horsepower and a 3.5-second 0-60 time, making it as exciting as it is luxurious. Additionally, the battery is estimated to provide 400 miles of driving with a full charge. The overall design of the Wagoneer S is streamlined, modern, and elegant. The front fascia dons the emblematic seven-slot grille illuminated by LED lighting for the first time ever. Overhead is a panoramic view of the world around you with a glass roof. At the rear of the Wagoneer S, you'll notice a subtle wing spoiler. Ordering for the Wagoneer S will open in the first quarter of 2023, and production will begin in 2024.
Jeep Recon
Jeep 4xe Day also brought the introduction of the Jeep Recon. The Recon launches the brand into the future with all-electric power while holding the brand's heritage close. The design of the Recon is representative of Jeep's long-running history, featuring an upright seven-slot grille and removable top and convertible roof, adopted from the acclaimed Wrangler. The Recon also achieves an unrivaled level of off-road capability like the Wrangler. The Trail Rated badge is earned by e-locker axle technology, keeping all four wheels moving at the same speed to offer optimal momentum and control on the trails. Additionally, the Recon comes standard with 4x4, all-terrain tires, Selec-Terrain Traction Management, tow hooks, and underbody skid plates. The electric power makes the Recon ideal for off-roading because, instead of waiting for engine RPMs to build to send torque to the wheel, the torque is available instantly. This makes it easier than ever to get the wheels to crawl over trail obstacles. At the reveal of the Jeep Recon, the brand announced that it is able to surpass the challenging Rubicon Trail with enough battery power remaining to make it back to town. Like the Wagoneer S, consumers can order a Jeep Recon in the early months of 2023, while production will begin in 2024.
