Safety Features of the 2022 Wagoneer Lineup

Now Available at Grogan's Towne Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram!

The Wagoneer has returned to the top of the premium SUV class with unprecedented luxury and capability. As comfortable and capable as the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models are, safety is still at the forefront of its incredible attributes. The Wagoneer body sits atop a high-strength steel frame for superior impact protection. Both the driver and front passenger are protected by front, side, and knee airbags, while all three rows have curtain airbag protection. Furthermore, the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer come with more than 120 standard and available driver-assist technologies. Here on this page, you can learn more about a handful of these high-tech driver aids to help keep you and your passengers safe on any journey.

Wagoneer standard driver assists

As was previously mentioned, more than 120 driver assists are available for the 2022 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. First, you'll find blindspot monitoring with rear cross-traffic warning on all Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer models. This provides drivers with an extra set of eyes where the rearview mirrors can't see. The vehicle will warn the driver of objects, people, or cars in the blindspots using audio and visual cues. Also standard is automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. This works in conjunction with the standard full-speed forward collision mitigation system to detect a suddenly stopped vehicle or pedestrian, warn the driver, and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision. Active lane management is standard to monitor the vehicle's lane position and warn the driver with visual and audio cues if they begin to veer off course. If the driver does not immediately take corrective measures, the system will gently steer the vehicle back into its lane. Another favored safety feature is the adaptive cruise control. With this system, the driver can set a preferred distance between their car and the one leading, while the adaptive cruise control will use throttle control and braking to keep that distance, even in stop-and-go traffic, automatically.

Grand Wagoneer standard driver assists

Above are some basic driver assists that are standard. But the Wagoneer designers took it beyond the basics for the Grand Wagoneer. The Grand Wagoneer adds intersection collision assist, which uses four radar sensors and one front camera to detect an imminent collision when approaching an intersection. If a collision is deemed imminent, the system will warn the driver and automatically apply the brakes if corrective actions are not immediately taken. The Grand Wagoneer's 360-degree surround-view camera provides a birds-eye view of the surroundings to aid in the entrance and exit of a parking spot. Also standard on the Grand Wagoneer is a digital rearview mirror. This new technology uses a rear camera displayed on a 9.2-inch LCD screen in the shape and position of a conventional rearview mirror, giving drivers an unobstructed view of the road behind them. The system can be reverted to a traditional mirror when the digital rearview isn't in use.

Available driver assists

While the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are very well-equipped when it comes to safety, available advanced safety features take it from well-equipped to unrivaled. First, traffic sign recognition utilizes a front-facing camera to detect traffic-related signs, such as school or constriction zone, speed limit, and others. When a traffic sign is detected, it will be displayed on the digital driver information display in front of the driver and on the available head-up projector display. Second, the night vision camera with animal and pedestrian detection uses an infrared camera to detect heat signatures up to nearly 110 yards away, invisible to the naked eye. When using this feature, the driver will see the heat signatures on the driver information display. Finally, active Driving Assist is also available for the Grand Wagoneer. This Level 1 autonomous driving system requires the driver to have their hands on the steering wheel and their eyes on the road. This technology drives with minimal driver input by coordinating the active lane management and adaptive cruise control systems with multiple cameras, radars, and sensors. Hands-Free Active Driving Assist only requires the driver to keep their eyes on the road to drive autonomously. Both active driving assists can only be used on approved roads.
